On a beautiful sunny Monday morning - the last day in May 2021 - boats of all shapes and sizes took to the water, from the Clyde Cruising Club, other Clyde based Yacht, boating clubs and Marinas’ to join perhaps the biggest most spectacular mass flotilla of small boats ever seen on the Clyde.
This wonderful fund raising event, on behalf of the RNLI, was led by Sir Boyd Tunnock of the World Famous Uddingston based Tunnocks’ biscuit company.
The huge number of boats in attendance was itself evidence of the success of the very well organised event much enjoyed by all who took part.
Understandably, last year was a difficult one for the RNLI, in particular, fundraising. Despite the circumstances brought on by the Coronavirus pandemic, volunteers in lifeboats launched throughout the year to those in difficulty on the water.
Events like this really help contribute towards the annual running costs of a lifeboat station which typical sit at approximately £155,000.
2020 was a very difficult year, going forward in 2021 makes fundraising events such as this one even more important and very welcome.
All RNLI Volunteer crew members and officials here at Largs along with all RNLI stations wish to extend their most grateful thanks to Tunnocks’, Clyde Cruising Club, those who helped to organise this magnificent event and all who took part and contributed, much appreciated.
