Learn to sail
The best way to learn how to sail or how to drive a motorboat, is to take an RYA-approved course. RYA Powerboat Level 2 courses and RYA Competent Crew courses teach how the basics of boating and help build your confidence on the water.
Various companies at Lymington Yacht Haven provide these courses which can be tailored to you, your boat or your group.
Hire a boat
There's several ways to hire, or 'charter', a boat. You can choose a skippered option where your motorboat or sailing yacht comes with a skipper who will take you on the water and teach you while you sail. Alternatively, you can choose a 'bareboat' option where, subject to your experience and qualifications, you hire the boat to skipper it yourself.
Many companies based at Lymington Yacht Haven provide a range of boating opportunities from half-day RIB experiences, to sailing charters, corporate days out and boating events.
Regattas & sailing events
Lymington is a yachting town with races and regattas throughout the year. Organised by the town's two yacht clubs, racing includes popular Thursday night, Sunday and Winter series as well as one-off regattas throughout the year.
In addition, the Solent is home to some of the biggest and most popular sailing events in the world. Whether you're on-the-water or watching from ashore, events like Cowes Week and Round The Island Race are incredible spectacles.
Junior Sailing
Lymington Yacht Haven has proudly sponsored the Wednesday Junior Sailing (WJS) Programme for over 20 years. Organised by the Royal Lymington Yacht Club, the pioneering scheme provides sailing opportunities for local school children, every Wednesday throughout the spring and summer, for just £1 per session.
The scheme has allow 100s of school children to learn how to sail, and it is even provided a pathway for several sailors to progress to professional events and even the Olympics!
