The international Gold Anchor Award scheme rates marinas based on the quality of facilities, level of service and overall standard on offer to boat owners. A little over 100 marinas worldwide have been given the highest marking, Five Gold Anchors, with Plymouth Yacht Haven receiving this accolade for the third time in succession.
As Plymouth’s largest marina, Plymouth Yacht Haven provides full-tide berthing to over 450 boats, as well as offering one of the most comprehensive boatyard operations in the westcountry with a 75 ton boat hoist, indoor hangar storage and outdoor yard space. Marina users are also able to take advantage of modern facilities, free parking, free Wi-Fi, and the award winning Bridge Bar & Restaurant.
Steve Kitchen, Marina Director at Plymouth Yacht Haven, added “We are thrilled to learn that we have retained our 5 Gold Anchor status for the third time in succession. The assessments by The Yacht Harbour Association are extensive and rigorous, so we are delighted to have received top marks by these industry experts. Huge credit needs to go to our Haven Team who are on the pontoons all day, every day serving marina visitors and providing a 5 star service.”
Last winter, Plymouth Yacht Haven undertook a ‘once in 20 year’ dredging operation which ensured the entire marina remained full-tide access to at least 2.5m below chart datum. Steve Kitchen stressed the importance of the works saying, “We welcome hundreds of visiting yachts throughout the year, as well as Plymouth Regatta competitors, Rolex Fastnet Race finishers and superyachts up to 150ft. It is therefore critical that we provide deepwater access at all times of the tide to ensure we meet the needs of these boaters.”
Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City, now has four marinas with the highest ranking including Plymouth Yacht Haven, Mayflower Marina, Queen Anne’s Battery and Sutton Harbour Marina. As a result, Plymouth has the second highest number of Five Gold Anchor marinas in the world.
