The Fowey Regatta is a must visit for anyone in the region during August – visitors come from around the world to enjoy all there is to see and do.

  • Fowey Carnival and the Carnival Procession
  • Live music throughout the week
  • Fireworks on the river

The Regatta is also one of the UK’s best known sailing events. There’s a full programme of races, including the famous Troys, a class of sailing boat built only in Fowey. With live music daily and nightly on the Town Quay to suit every taste, fireworks both on Monday night and a spectacular display to mark the end of Regatta on Saturday, it’s one week you’ll want to come back to again and again.

History of Fowey Royal Regatta

Fowey is a quiet town on the south coast of Cornwall, but for one week every August it plays host to hundreds of visitors who flock to see Fowey Royal Regatta.

Fowey Royal Regatta is held every August and is one of Britain’s premier sailing events. However, not all the action takes place on the water; there’s plenty to keep landlubbers entertained, from children’s entertainment to the famous Giant Pasty ceremony. Most of these events are free and those that it is necessary to charge for are not prohibitive.

The Regatta has a long & proud history, having attracted visitors including Queen Victoria, Prince Albert & Queen Elizabeth II. The Events during Regatta week are organised, marshalled and funded by the Fowey Royal Regatta Committee, an entirely voluntary organisation whose members give freely of their time and effort. The week now costs in the region of £40,000 and this money is collected by sponsorship, selling merchandise, through our Crowdfunding campaign and via street collections.
